Gastroenterology and hepatology
Hepatitis B consultation
You can discuss liver conditions, including hepatitis B. Bring previous test results and a medication list to discuss your current condition and further care.
Reasons to seek a consultation
- You were told you have hepatitis B or a positive HBs antigen result at a screening or another clinic
- You were previously told you have hepatitis B and would like to discuss further care
- You have concerns about liver test values or previous test results
We review your results and medical history
Hepatitis B is a liver condition caused by the hepatitis B virus. Symptoms may be mild or absent. A doctor reviews your test results, previous care and medication history to decide on further testing and care. The tests and follow-up intervals depend on your condition.
Consultation and referral to specialist care
A hepatology specialist certified by the Japan Society of Hepatology provides consultations for liver conditions, including viral hepatitis such as hepatitis B and C. We assess the care we can provide at the clinic and connect you with an appropriate medical institution when more specialised testing or treatment is needed.
If you are already receiving treatment
Do not stop or change medication on your own. Discuss it with your current treating doctor. When visiting us, bring your medication list and records showing your test results. After assessing the care we can provide, we consider coordination with your current doctor or an appropriate specialist institution when needed.
Costs
Consultation and testing costs depend on the care provided and the purpose of the tests. A hepatitis virus test requested by someone without symptoms may be self-pay. Please confirm insurance coverage and costs when you visit.
How to visit and what to bring
General outpatient visits, including hepatology consultations, do not require an appointment. Visit during clinic hours. If you have jaundice, marked fatigue or loss of appetite, seek medical advice promptly rather than waiting for appointment arrangements or a reply.
- Your My Number health insurance card or eligibility confirmation document
- A medication notebook or list of your current medicines
- Screening reports, previous blood test and imaging results, and a referral letter if available
Frequently asked questions
- Does a positive HBs antigen result mean I need medication immediately? We consider your results, liver condition and medical history. Bring the results to discuss them with a doctor.
- Can I consult you while receiving treatment elsewhere? Bring records of your treatment and test results. We assess the care we can provide and consider coordination with your current doctor or an appropriate specialist institution when needed.
