Colonoscopy requires an in-person clinic visit by the previous day to receive bowel preparation, even for returning patients. Review each stage and follow the individual instructions confirmed for your appointment.

    The clinic reviews your booking request and questionnaire, then sends an initial email to arrange the date and time. The clinic will call if a medical check is needed.

    Confirm the date and preparation

    Your appointment is confirmed when you and the clinic agree on the date and time by email or phone. The clinic provides individual preparation instructions. Colonoscopy patients must visit in person by the previous day to receive the bowel preparation, and the clinic checks the status of this visit.

    The clinic confirms your condition and preparation on the day, referring to the questionnaire submitted with your booking request.

Information to prepare

Visit general outpatient care without an appointment if you have not decided between gastroscopy and colonoscopy or want to discuss both. Note when symptoms began, the exact screening finding and any previous endoscopy. Bring the complete report rather than only a cropped image of the flagged result.

Medical conditions, surgery, allergies and medication can change how an examination is prepared and performed. Do not stop antithrombotic or other prescribed medication on your own. Bring the medication name and dose for review.

How colonoscopy and gastroscopy preparation differ

This table shows the overall sequence. The exact food, drink, medication and bowel-preparation times are confirmed individually.

The clinic reviews bowel habits, surgery, previous preparation and medication, then provides the bowel preparation. Review symptoms, screening results, medication, preference for transnasal or transoral insertion and preference for sedation.
The day before Follow the dietary plan and the instructions for taking bowel preparation at home. Ask about a trial dose if taking it is a concern. Confirm when to stop food and how drinking is handled so the stomach can be examined.
Examination day Sedation and carbon dioxide are used. Observation usually takes about 20 minutes, after bowel preparation and health are checked. The examination is performed through the nose or mouth. Observation usually takes about six to seven minutes.
Afterwards Instructions on food, alcohol, exercise and travel depend on whether sampling or polyp treatment occurred. Confirm when to restart food and drink, transport restrictions and instructions after tissue sampling.

Three points to confirm before leaving

Food, drink and transport

Confirm when food and drink can restart and how to travel home if sedation was used. Do not drive a car, motorcycle or bicycle on a day when sedative medication was used.

Activity after a procedure

Tissue sampling or polyp treatment can change restrictions on food, alcohol, exercise, business travel and holidays. Keep the written instructions.

Results and follow-up

Confirm whether pathology was requested, when to receive that result and whether another examination, clinic visit or referral is required.
